John-Paul Danko, P. Eng. is a graduate of McMaster University with a degree in Civil Engineering.
He is a licensed professional engineer (P. Eng.) with twenty years’ private sector experience designing, building and managing the construction of heavy civil public infrastructure projects including roads, bridges, and industrial marine works. John-Paul was part of the engineering design team that pioneered the use of glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP) for structural use in Ontario.
He is also a commercial photographer and writer. His work is distributed by Stocksy United and for seven years he wrote a monthly photography column at DIYphotography.net, one of the world’s most popular photography websites.
In his spare time, John-Paul enjoys backcountry camping, sailing and travelling with his family.
John-Paul was elected to Hamilton City Council in October 2018 and began his term in 2018. As an elected member of Hamilton City Council, John-Paul sits on three standing committees and has served as Deputy Mayor, Budget Chair, Chair of Public Works and Chair of Planning Committee.
John-Paul also serves on the Board of Directors for the Art Gallery of Hamilton and the Conservation Halton Board.
John-Paul was born at Henderson Hospital and has lived in Hamilton his entire life. He currently lives on the Hamilton mountain with his wife of 20 years, two children, three cats and a very large dog. His wife Dawn Danko has served as a Hamilton Wentworth District School Board Trustee since 2014.
